Logo Design Trends in 2010

Different Logo design trends have been taken on board every year. Although the field of logo design does not follow any set rules yet different trends and styles are being followed by different industries. With every passing year, we see different unique trends in the world of Logo Design that we could have never predicted. Some of them are very good and amaze us with the new creative approach while some are the drastic ones.

Many companies have redesigned or revamped their corporate logo design over time. This year was no exception too; we see revamped logos of CNN, DELL and iTunes this year.

Changing a corporate logo design that has already established its presence in the market is not an easy task. If done properly, a redesigned logo design can greatly strengthen your company’s image and on the other hand, it can go wrong for your corporate identity if not created carefully.

In the year 2010, we have seen a great number of revamped logo designs. This year was the roller coaster ride for the revamped logo design. Since, it is almost the end of this year; we decided to summarize the whole trend of refurbished logo design in 2010.

Some of them are good ones while some are not so good. Some companies have made drastic changes in their corporate logo design while some have made minor changes which went unnoticed. Let’s have a look. You can decide yourselves once you look through this post. If you think we have missed out some of the good revamped logo design, do let us know via comment section below.

The trend seems to favor simplification of logo design. Clean, lean design, deleting drop shadows and gradients.

Of course some logos only make sense following their predecessor. The NASA and MySpace logos most likely would not stand on their own otherwise.

Cartoon Network has lost their playful feel – they now look clean, sterile, corporate and boring.

Gap — definitely a “huh?” Like — what were you thinking here guys?

Hotmail has sizzle. CNN — great. Love the Skittles logo too– another one that is built on years of advertising, so it captures what we already think of Skittles… a rainbow of colors.

Great collection — thanks for sharing

Logo designs and rebirths are always interesting. I’d love to know the stories behind some of these. There’s always a story. In my mind it’s clear which ones “win” me over and which really fall short. Some went the more powerful route while others turned out rather “wimpy”. The one that really caught my eye was the YMCA. As my 6 your old pointed out, the new one looks too “girly”. I wonder if it will stick?

Good stuff. Google and Google G-Mail are still some of the weakest visual marks I see daily. It almost hurts to look at them. Interesting to see your placement of the new Dell logo and the new Democratic National Committee’s mark, some similar thoughts going on there I guess. I wonder of the circle “D” Ranch will contact their copyright attorneys?

Some of the logos’ old designs are nice compare to the new ones. Symantec’s new logo looks like Verisign logo. Did Symantec acquired Verisign?

  7. This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!

Nice selection of logo’s Angelina! I really don’t like the Oprah one. What is going on with it?

It’s the first time I’ve seen the new MySpace logo. Very drastic but it kinda works. Unless you think it says MyGap.

Time to make some logo changes myself I think.

    Thanks again!

I agree with claudia, it’s about simplification, nothing really leaning towards creativity, the selections seems mostly about readability

  13. Allison says:

I’ve noticed that the corners are more rounded in some of these logos. Also, there seems to be a more “plush” appearance (like an overstuffed pillow) to a few with the exception of the Twitter logo. How much fun to look at the differences! Thank you for this post.

  14. usually interested in this type of info.
